Support the Sheffield Street Tree campaigners – help fund ‘Tree Hunter’ Rob McBride……
I have a new book out – on trees – called ‘Shadow Woods – a search for lost landscapes’ – and hopefully a very positive take on future tree’d landscapes…..but embedded in a radical reinterpretation of countryside history.
However, (and more importantly) The Tree Hunter, Rob McBride, is doing a huge amount for Sheffield trees and is presently unfunded. To help support the campaign, from every book sold between now and Christmas, I will donate £2 to help Rob’s costs.
Not a lot I know, but maybe others will follow suit………..
The history of the book is that I wrote a short volume called ‘Eco-history – an introduction to biodiversity and conservation’ and some reviewers felt it was too negative – one stating that although the evidence was incontrovertible, the book was ‘profoundly depressing’. Furthermore, whilst it was an educational book, another reviewer said it was unsuitable for children because the message was too stark!
[Hmmmm with the Sheffield street trees situation I wonder why that is…..?! Maybe growing up with rivers of detergent foam and raw sewage was a little depressing too]. However, moving swiftly on, the ‘Shadow Woods’ story is the ‘happy ending’!
Please pass this message on and also come along to our big environmental celebration at Sheffield Hallam University, on the 27th November with me, Professor Chris Baines and others, and its free.
