BBC Countryfile on the healing spa at Derbyshire’s Stony Middleton

The recent visit of the Countryfile team to the Peak District included a look at a remarkable, community-based project to rescue and restore a ‘lost’ bathhouse and warm-water spring from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Some locals have in the past believed that this was a ‘Roman spa’ which of course it isn’t.

Its history is still fascinating though and the site represents a part of the boom in water health and hydrotherapy tourism in Georgian Britain.

Also, and thanks to all who have visited this blog – this week we reached the landmark of 50,000 views from 115 countries – much appreciated!
