The Wild Side of Yorkshire’s Coast & Country – The Bowden Housteads Blues

Local wildlife enthusiast, Lee Swords, emailed me about one of Sheffield’s wonderful ancient woods, Bowden Housteads at Handsworth:

Brimstone numbers are down but getting Holly Blues in the Bowden Houstead area…the parakeet is still going strong!! Best wishes, Lee

He also attached the rather good photographs. Interestingly, whilst his holly blue numbers are buoyant (and this is a species prone to dramatic ups and downs due to a parasite whose populations follow those of the blue), brimstones have generally been performing well elsewhere.

The parakeets are on the up generally!
